ALCOA’S RIDGE TO RIVER RELAY FACT SHEET

WHAT:                        Alcoa’s Ridge to River Relay is a six-leg relay race involving cross country skiing, downhill skiing/snowboarding, running, biking, kayak/canoeing and portage.  Ridge to River is a fund raiser for the Retired Senior Volunteer Center of NCW, the local volunteer center and as many as 40 local non-profit groups.

 

WHEN:                        Saturday, April 12, 2008, the 28th  Anniversary of the Event

 

WHERE:                     Wenatchee, Washington; a 35-mile Traditional Wenatchee Course or a 20-mile Columbia Course, beginning at the summit of Mission Ridge and finishing at Walla Walla Point Park on the banks of the Columbia River.

WENATCHEE             Alpine Ski/Snowboard, 2 miles, top of Mission Ridge to Lodge

COURSE                    Run, 4.5 miles, Mission Ridge Lodge to Squilchuck State Park

                                    Bike, 19 miles, Squilchuck State Park to Wenatchee River Park

                                    Canoe/Kayak, 9 miles, Wenatchee River Park to Walla Walla Point Park

                                    Portage/Sprint to finish, .5 mile, in Walla Walla Point Park

 

COLUMBIA                  Nordic Ski, 3-miles, top of Mission Ridge to River Relay

COURSE:                   Alpine Ski/Snowboard, 2 miles, top of Mission Ridge to Lodge

                                    Run, 4.5 miles, Mission Ridge Lodge to Squilchuck State Park

                                    Bike, 10 miles, Squilchuck State Park to Confluence State Park

                                    Canoe/Kayak, 3 miles, Confluence State Park to Walla Walla Point Park

                                    Portage/Sprint to finish, .5 mile, in Walla Walla Point Park

                                   

 

PARTICIPANTS:         1200 participants:  50% from North Central Washington and 50% from Puget Sound and throughout the Pacific Northwest

 

VOLUNTEERS:          50-member Race Committee and 1400 race weekend community volunteers

 

DIVISIONS:                 26 in Recreational, Racing, Tandem, and Iron Classes

 

TIMING:                       Chip-timed event

 

AWARDS:                   Awards are presented to overall finisher in Pro, Rec, and Iron;top 3 in each division;  over $2000 in merchandise prizes donated by Arlberg Sports, Specialized Bicycles, Salomon and other sponsors awarded in a random drawing of racers and distributed at the finish line.
