The only equipment required to be carried during the portage by Rec
and Pro teams is the boat. Paddles and life jackets only must be
carried by Iron, Tandem and Adventure Duo participants, and they
leave their kayak or canoe at the landing storage area. Both Iron
Adventure Team members will sprint to the finish after leaving the
boat at the Iron storage area. The portage ends in
Walla Walla
Point
Park
. To start the sprint,
the team member wearing the timing chip begins sprinting as soon as
the boat officially reaches the line on the grass in the middle of
the transition zone. With the exception of Iron Adventure teams,
only one member is allowed to sprint. The sprinter must wear their race number on the front chest and have
the timing chip while sprinting. If the sprinter does not have the
timing chip, your team will not receive an official finish time. The chip must cross the finish line and be turned over to
the finish line officials or a $75 replacement fee will be assessed.
The sprinter's race number must be worn on the front chest. Race
numbers must be worn by all participants during the portage and on
the front of the sprinter.
